Comparing yourself to others is a great way to ensure you don’t go too far. But sometimes, it gets out of control. This can happen when we compare our lives to those of celebrities and other people in the public eye.

But often, we compare ourselves to people who are less famous or successful than us — our family members, friends, coworkers or even strangers. It’s important to remember that nobody’s life is perfect and if you’re comparing your own life to someone else’s, you’re going to find flaws that aren’t necessarily there.

Be Honest With Yourself

Think about how often you feel jealous of other people and why. Is it because they have something you want? Do you feel like they have a better life than you do? It’s Tempting to Assess Ourselves Against Others

We gauge our status in social settings by comparing ourselves to those around us. It’s human nature. But when we do it too much, it can turn into a pattern that eats away at our self-esteem and confidence. Use affirmative statements — say things like “I am pretty good at ___” or “I am confident about my ability.” These statements make you more likely to believe the positive aspects of your personality and behavior and less likely to believe negative ones.

Look for The Good Things in Your Life

The good news is that we all have qualities we can be proud of; think about how many people are better looking than you? We all have things we’re good at, which makes us special; think about how many people are better at sports or chess than you? So, find something positive about yourself — your sense of humor, for example, or your ability to make friends easily.It’s important to remember that not everything you see on social media is true — or even accurate. The reality is that we tend to present only our best selves online. When you compare yourself to someone else, you often aren’t comparing apples to apples—you’re comparing apples to an apple pie someone posted after they made it using all the best ingredients, a recipe they found online from a professional chef, and some special lighting and filters.

Don’t Look for People Who are Better than You

It’s not that you shouldn’t admire those who are better at something than you — it’s important to have role models at different levels of experience, skill and knowledge within your profession or industry. But don’t allow these people to define who you are as an individual and what you’re capable of achieving.

Don’t compare yourself against others’ accomplishments or successes (unless they’re really good!).

Remember Comparisons are Unfair to Both Parties

When you compare yourself to others, you’re not only being unfair to yourself, but also the person you’re comparing yourself with too. You have no idea what their life is really like, so why judge? When we compare ourselves and our lives with someone else’s we have no idea what is truly going on for them. The grass may seem greener on the other side, but in reality, it could be dying from lack of water on their side of the fence. Even if they are having a great time on holiday that doesn’t mean they don’t have some huge challenges going on in their life too.
