Family-friendly Healthy Snack Ideas

As any parent will tell you, it can be hard to find healthy snacks your kids actually want to eat. Whether they’re protesting vegetables or have decided they will refuse anything except ice cream, you might be looking for something new they’ll want to try and will love to eat. Try some of the following, as they’re sure to be a hit with the whole family. 

Nuts or Nut Butter

Nuts are a fantastic option as they’re healthy and easy. Just keep a container handy for kids to munch on when they’re hungry. Whether you choose Nichols Farms organic pistachios, peanuts, or a mix of nuts, you can also create a nut butter that’s perfect for spreading on bread, crackers, or vegetables. Plus, your kids can have fun watching you make it. 

DIY Yogurt Mixes

When the kids see yogurt in the grocery store, they probably gravitate to the mixes with cookies or candy in them. While the yogurt part is healthy, the candy is not. They might not want to eat plain yogurt, so instead let them create their own mixes. Have a sample of fruit on hand and let them pick a piece or two to chop up and add to their yogurt by themselves. 

Frozen Fruit and Yogurt

Ice cream may be delicious, but it’s not really healthy diet. Instead, make fruit popsicles and add a little yogurt on top. Stick a popsicle stick in the fruit, drizzle yogurt on it, and freeze. Popcorn

Popcorn can be healthy, as long as it’s not covered in butter or salt. But if you want something besides plain popcorn or your kids prefer something with a bit more flavor, add on healthy and fun toppings. Kids will love the new flavors you have available and will enjoy being able to munch on popcorn more often. 

Banana Bread

Another fantastic option is banana bread. This is one you and the kids can make together, too, and it’s perfect for the bananas that are a little too ripe for the kids to eat. This way, they don’t end up going to waste. Try out different recipes or add in extra ingredients to make a healthy snack the kids will love.

Veggies and Dip

Veggies may go down a little easier when they’re served with dip. The flavor changes and it’s just fun to dip the veggies, take a bite, and dip again. Give kids their own veggies with a small cup of dip to let them enjoy this snack and to encourage them to eat more vegetables. 

Waffles and Fruit

Waffles aren’t just a breakfast food. They can be perfect for snacks, too. Make a larger batch and keep some in the freezer, pulling out a few each day for snack time. Add fruits into the batter when making waffles or drizzle them on top for a treat the kids will enjoy.
